Cutting Pad Questions

  • The correction stage. Paired with a compound, a cutting pad removes swirls, scratches and oxidation by levelling a fine layer of clear coat. It does the heavy lifting before you refine with a finishing pad.

  • Foam cutting pads are the versatile default. Microfibre cuts faster and suits harder paint or heavier defects. Start with the least aggressive that clears the defect and step up only if you need more bite.

  • More than one. Pads clog with spent product and lose their cut, so swap to a clean pad partway through each car. Two or three cutting pads keeps the correction consistent across panels.
