Clay Bar Questions

  • A clay bar pulls bonded contamination out of the paint that a wash leaves behind. After a chemical decon, the clay grabs what is left, so the surface goes glass-smooth ready for polish or protection.

  • Always use a proper clay lube or a rinseless mix, never just water. The lube lets the clay glide, and without it the clay grabs and marrs the paint instead of gliding over it.

  • Only when the paint feels rough after washing, usually once or twice a year, and always before polishing, waxing or coating. Overdoing it wears the surface for no gain, so clay by feel, not by habit.
